Windows 8 Metro and Desktop View

Question:
What are the differences between Metro and Desktop view within Microsoft Windows 8?
Answer:
Microsoft Windows 8 includes two different views, Metro and Desktop. The Metro view will display once Microsoft Windows 8 starts up and will display the Start screen. The Start screen provides tiles that are linked to folders, websites, people, or applications. These tiles can be organized in any order or removed from the Start screen.

To switch to the Desktop view from the Metro view, click on the Desktop tile that displays the image of your desktop. The Desktop view will display a desktop that is similar to the desktop used Microsoft Windows 7.

To switch back to the Metro view from the Desktop view, place your cursor in the bottom-left corner of the screen and click on the tile of the Metro view.

Note: Sometimes, there is no Desktop tile. In this case, the user can go to Search in the Charm Bar and search for the word "Desktop." To do this perform the following:
  1. Hover mouse over right-hand corner of desktop (or swipe in from the right side on a touch screen) to access the Charm Bar
  2. Select Search
  3. Perform a search for the word "Desktop"
